HAWKE’S BAY CYCLE HOLIDAYS

Hawke’s Bay’s unique diversity of cycling trails is within 1 to 19 kms circumference of our base at Greenmeadows in Napier. Bikers have the option to enjoy the comfort of staying at Greenmeadows on Gloucester the home of Bike About Tours for the duration of their cycling holiday.

Bikers will be transported to a start point that is manageable for their days cycling and collected in the late afternoon if required. This allows plenty of time to fully explore each chosen area. Wherever possible we return to base on an alternative road which gives you a greater overview of the Hawke’s Bay.

If Greenmeadows on Gloucester our accommodation complex is fully booked, we will ensure you stay at a property with similar standards close by (additional cost may apply). If you opt to organize your own accommodation on route your itinerary and costs will be revisited .

Flexibility is the Key: All Cycle Holiday itineraries are flexible and can be customized to suit your interest. Feel free to add or take out cycling days and put in days off – refer the “Country Excursion Ideas for Days off” pdf. Pre and post accommodation days can be added – on receiving your instructions a confirmed price will be submitted to you.–

Highlights

In amongst the rolling countryside on the Havelock North boundary, you will find New Zealand’s oldest winery: Te Mata Estate Winery dating from 1896, and the newest Craggy Range Winery & fine dining Restaurant from 1998. Other wineries/activities to visit in this area include:

  • Askerene Winery – Gourmet Picnics
  • Arataki Honey Centre and Te Mata Mushrooms
  • Black Barn Winery & Bistro
  • Mangapapa Lodge – an alternative for fine dining

The Havelock North wineries have a long heritage of quality wines and have been rewarded with their dedication via a string of accolades over the years. Enjoy a picnic lunch under the trees or a fine dining experience of the very best quality.

Note: You will be well rewarded with the views of the Tuki Tuki River and outlying areas cycling the new pathway to Craggy Range which is elevated on the side of the hill adjacent to the roadway.

Backtrack and join the River Road Riverbank pathway which follows the majestic Tuki Tuki River on its way to the sea, passing through vineyards, orchards, horticulture, and farming. Halfway down, cycle through the vineyard at Askerne Vineyards.

On arrival at Black Bridge, cross the river via the clip-on bridge, then make your way to Kidnappers Coast. Cycling 2 kms through Grange Creek Estuary/Wetlands, take time at the end of this pathway to view Napier in the distance, and to your right, Kidnappers Coast with its spectacular coastal views and white cliffs. Through the village of Haumoana – Coffee at Haumoana Café – re-join the pathway beside the sea on your way to the village of Te Awanga. Explore Elephant Hill Winery, Clearview Winery & Restaurant, Te Awanga Winery – platters and pizza in a picnic setting, a local pub Gannet Bar & Grill, and Hygge Café, plus lots of Art & Craft outlets to explore.
